We look forward to term starting on Wednesday 6th September. Have a great summer.

Term 2 - What happens when I fall asleep?

This term, Reception children will be finding out what happens when they're asleep and answering some of these questions:

  • What happens at night when you’re asleep?
  • Where does the Sun go during the night time? Does it go to sleep like you?
  • What does it feel like when you look at the stars? How far away are the stars? Why do they shine so brightly? How many stars are in the sky? Are the stars still there in the day time?
  • Have you ever seen the Moon? Why does the moon change shape? What would it be like to live on the moon?
  • Do you know the name of any planets? Do you know the name of any constellations?
  • Does everyone go to sleep at night?
  • Do all animals sleep at night?

Week 7 (12th-16th Dec)

This week we are thinking all about Christmas.

We will perform our nativity play. This includes lots of super singing and fantastic costumes!

We are also thinking about the Christmas story too and why Christmas is celebrated.

Week 6: 5th - 9th December

This week we have been very busy practicing our nativity play and singing our songs. The children looked fantastic in their costumes and I'm sure parents are eager to see our budding performers!

We also had a fantastic visit from Atomic Science, who gave us an amazing show of science and experiments using dry ice and bubbles.

Week 5 (28th Nov-2nd Dec)

Topic work

This week we are looking at the story 'Peace at Last' and we will really be thinking about how important it is to get a good amount of sleep to keep healthy.

We are writing lists for Christmas this week. This may be for a party, a present we might like to receive or to take food shopping. We will think carefully about the sounds we can hear in words and write them down thinking about the letter shapes as well as forming a list with one item on each line.

In Maths we are continuing to explore number using the numicon shapes and rods. We will also be thinking about estimating too and making a good guess as to how many of something we think there are. We will explore this using the objects on a section of wrapping so why not give this ago at home too.

Week 4: 21st - 25th Nov

The children have been working hard in Maths this week using the Numicon shapes and pegs to look at patterns and simple number bonds. They've also been exploring length using the Numicon number rods.

The children have also been exploring one more using our giant Numicon shapes.

Talk 4 Writing

The Talk 4 Writing story language has also started to show in the children's exploring time.

Technology in the classroom

We've really enjoyed using our classroom phones to work together and describe pictures for our partner to draw. We used our 2D shape language to help us describe what to draw.

Writing and phonics

We've been using our phonics skills to write during our exploring time. Some of us have been trying really hard to write some sentences!

Moon Landing

We've been exploring the moon landing in our investigation area.

Mega Moon Rockets

We've been building Mega Moon Rockets in our Funky Fingers sessions!

We have been using the numicon shapes in our Maths to help us to think about one more than a given number.

We have also been producing some great writing too. We have thought about all the things we have learnt about during our new topic- 'What happens when I fall asleep?'

We have been exploring what happens when we fall asleep both inside and outside! Take a look at some of our learning!

Disco Dough

Watch us do our disco dough- this helps us to build up the muscles in our fingers!

Week 2 (7th Nov - 11th Nov)

The children have loved reading Oliver Jeffers' 'How to Catch a Star'. They've been learning the story language, using story actions and drawing their own story maps. They'll continue with this story over the next few weeks and create their own versions.

The Black Hole

The children absolutely loved 'The Black Hole' mobile planetarium and were all thrilled to learn about Earth and Space. They looked at the constellations, the solar system, the Moon, and how the Earth spins to create day and night. We'll carry on looking at these in the next few weeks.
