Thank you for the warm welcome that you have all given me in my first week in school.
This will be a fun-filled but hardworking year! I know the children will embrace the challenges that I set and I will be encouraging them to challenge themselves too - they are certainly ready for that! I know that they will behave with the maturity and decorum I expect and I have no doubt that this will be a great year with lots of fun, hard work, success and surprises!
Our first two days saw the class get stuck into our new topic, 'Traders and Raiders' which charts the impact of both the Anglo-Saxons and the Vikings on Britain and Europe. Please see below for information about the topic. Although this is a good starting point, the topic is led by the children's interest and enthusiasm and may take a different direction!
Our PE days this year are on Monday and Thursday. Please ensure you have full PE kit in on each of these days. This year, Year 4 will be swimming (starting on the 20th September). A letter will be sent out next week with information about arrangements and groupings.
Each week the children will be sent home with spellings they need to practise ready for a test on Friday. As well as this, we are going to have a weekly times table which will be tested on a Thursday. This involves knowing both the multiplication and associated division facts (i.e. 4x6 = 24 / 24 ÷ 6 = ?). All children now have their own reading book, please encourage them to read daily, even if it is five minutes!
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask.
