In addition to the Year group planning, there are times where the whole school comes together to share learning and experiences. This year they are:
This year the 100 year celebration of the end of World War 1, Diwali and Bonfire night were in the same week. We planned a week where children found out more about these events and why they are marked.
As part of our work to promote reading and the love of books, we want World Book day to be more than about dressing up. We planned a wide of activities to promote reading: book at breakfast, reading buddies, library visits, author workshops, bookshop workshop and much more.
This year we will be focused on the environment - and looking at our part in protecting it. We will look at how we can reduce single use plastic, create recycled art and look at our impact on the environment and how to reduce this. We will focus this around a book: The Curious Gardener and use our school grounds to support pupils' understanding.
Every child has the opportunity to perform across the year in a range of events.
Every class will share their learning 3 times across the year. Parents will be invited to attend. Through this pupils will have the opportunity to develop their confidence by taking part.
All children in nursery and reception will take part in a traditional nativity. Nursery children will learn the songs and be the supporting choir, whilst children in reception will take a more active role. The children will perform to the school and to parents.
Children in Year 1 and 2 will take part in a Christmas play based around the Christmas story. Year 1 will be taking the role of the choir, whilst Year 2 will take the main acting roles. The children will perform to both the school and to parents.
Children in Year 3 and 4 will perform a musical with Year 3 as the supporting choir and Year 4 taking the acting parts.
All children from Reception to Year 4 will take part in a Christmas Concert with parents invited. Children will sing whole school songs, the choir will perform and Year 3 and 4 will perform poems on a festive theme. EYFS children will sing some songs from their nativity play and Year 1 and 2 will also sing some songs from their performance.
All children will take part in a summer concert. Year 1,2 and 3 will perform on the djembe drums, Year 4 ukulele. The choir will perform a range of songs they have learnt over the year.
