Week 3 - 9th - 13th March
This week we have been continuing to work on fractions. We have been looking at fractions of quantities and calculating quantities of fractions. We have been using our maths equipment to work out different amounts in fractions and explaining how we would use this in real life.
This week we have been learning about where our book Arthur and the Golden Rope is set. We have looked at the landscape of Iceland and what customs and traditions they have. We completed the week writing a persuasive script to ask more people to visit Iceland.
This week we have been learning about how the Anglo Saxons. We learnt about their traditions and how they lived. We were able to make comparisons between the Romans, Saxons and Celts. We then looked at their way of life and why they would have wanted to create their own towns rather than living in the existing Roman towns.
Week 2 - 2 - 6th March
Maths - This week we have continued to learn about fractions. We have been looking at adding and subtracting fractions and ensuring that we always find the common denominator. We have been looking at whole amounts too and discussing how whole amounts will not change when changing the denominator.
English - This week we have been celebrating World Book Week. We have completed author workshops and practiced telling stories in different perspectives. We visited the library and learnt about the Dewy Decimal system and completed the week in fancy dress. We also used our pop up books that were made last term to tell well known stories to the year one classes.
Week 1 - 24 - 28th February
Maths - This week we have been working on fractions. We have recapped our key terminology including numerator, denominator and equivalent. We have drawn our own fraction walls identifying equivalent fractions and what this means to different shaped and sized fractions.
English - We have been working on non fiction writing this week. We have reviewed the features of a letter and broken down each part of a letter and discussed why this should be included. We looked at two different types of letters and discussed why these letters were written. We finished the week writing letters to the Celts persuading them to join the fight against the Romans.
Topic - This week we have been learning about the Saxon and Viking invasions after the Romans had left Britain. We created a time line from 410AD to 1066. We discussed why the Saxons and Vikings had invaded and why the Romans retreated back to the continent. We also looked at how catapults were used and how they worked.. We created our own and tested what the best item was to catapult was. The highest result we got was 5 Meters!
